The Wet Laptop Story and the STOP Technique

Few days ago I spilled some water on my laptop and didn’t notice it until it blew up, I found myself calm because I know other emotional management techniques but very down and stressed. I knew that worse things can happen and that this was a good occasion to strengthen my character. So I said this is a good time to use the STOP technique that I’ve learned at the NEXT STEP seminar and after few rounds I was able to feel masterful in spite of the accident. So, surely you are guessing now: what is that mysterious STOP technique?

The STOP technique is an anchor. Anchor is a strong positive feeling attached to a unique physical movement. It must be installed first. I did that at the seminar that I’ve attended few weeks before. Installing means conditioning it multiple times. We sat down and thought about a very sad event or a limiting belief, it took a minute to get to a very down state, then we were told to stand up tall vigorously shout STOP!!!, instantly take a deep breath and keep a huge smile on the face, chin high. After a moment reach a hand to the heaven grab some glory and pull down vigorously shouting YES!!! Tap yourself on the arm like praising for a good thing done. The procedure had to be repeated at least twenty times, each time a bit faster. So the next time we sat down we had only several seconds to get depressed again, and we had to stand up even faster, making more noise, and shout louder and faster. At the end we were like high speed robots, going thru this cycle as fast as we could to the point where we could no longer find any shadow of a negative emotion. We were hyper happy. The anchor was installed.

Now when I have a limiting belief (and if there is nobody around :) ) I can do exactly the same process about ten times triggering that hyper happiness and destroying previous feeling of depression or overwhelm.

But there is also a happy ending to my wet laptop story…, after drying out my laptop worked fine :) I couldn’t believe, chances were minuscule. There must have been an auto power off on short circuit. Anyway I knew then that I had a life story to write.
