Spirit guides are souls like you, just much older although they often still incarnate. Spirit guides are to make sure that you experience all the lessons you intended to have. They can give you a nudge via an intuition or a gut feeling. They do mistakes and naturally learn too.

Is there something like angels? Yes, but people put that label nearly on everything that is from outside this world. Spirit guides often appear to their patrons as angels because that’s the only reasonable form that people would accept. In fact angels are highly powered beings, not necessarily better than us but just at a high vibrational state, they are designed to do other job. Let me give you an analogy that will use electricity voltage as a spiritual-vibrational state: if humans were like an electric current in house appliances then angels would be like a thunder lightning, sometimes they are just to much for us. The word “angel” means a messenger but most of the communication needed is done by spirit guides so in fact this term fits better to them.
